Waverly, IA – More additions to the Knox cross country program’s record books were made on October 6 at the Dan Huston Invitational at Wartburg College.
Both the Prairie Fire women’s and men’s teams placed sixth in the competition at Wartburg College. Augustana College of South Dakota won both the women’s and men’s races.
Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest) continued her outstanding first-year for Knox with a time of 24:38 in the 6K race, placing her 50th out of 116 runners. Reyes ran the fifth fastest time in school history. She set two other top five all-time marks, #2 (24:26) and #4 (24:37), earlier this season.
Also earning a spot on the Top 25 Best Performances List is first-year Mickella Duffy-Webb (Colorado Springs, CO, William J. Palmer). She finished 55th overall in 25:11, which places her #9 on the list and easily tops her previous fastest time of 26:21. Duffy-Webb also moves up to #6 on the Top 25 Individuals by Time List.
The Prairie Fire men’s team was paced by senior Sean Choate (Chicago, IL, Chicago Academy). He placed 20th overall out of 106 runners in a time of 26:11, which ranks #15 on the all-time best performances list. Choate also owns the seventh fastest time of 26:01 -- his career best that he set at a previous meet this season.
Junior Gabe Moreno (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg ) finished 43rd in 27:02 and senior Jacob Buddell (Lake Bluff, IL, Lake Forest) placed 54th in 27:27 for Knox.
Following Augustana in the women’s team standings were host Wartburg, Carleton College, Minnesota-Duluth, Midwest Conference member Grinnell College, and Martin Luther College.
The runner-up in the men’s standings was the Illinois State University Running Club. Minnesota-Duluth placed third, Wartburg fourth, Warburg Alumni fifth, and Martin Luther College seventh.
The Prairie Fire cross country squads have one more regular season race remaining before the Midwest Conference Championships on October 27 at St. Norbert College.
Knox travels to Jacksonville, Illinois to run in the Illinois College Invitational on October 13. The first race begins at 11:00 a.m. on the IC campus.
