Augustana (21-7) scored a run in the first inning of the opening game to lead 1-0.  The Vikings added three runs in the third, another three in the fourth, and two in the fifth on 17 hits.

Sophomore Amber Eisha (South Wilmington, IL, Gardner-South Wilmington) suffered the loss in the circle for Knox.

The Prairie Fire (5-14) struggled offensively against Augie starting pitcher Courtney Ledezma, who allowed a single to junior Jill Krippel (Plainfield, IL, Plainfield Central) and two walks.  She struck out eight in four innings.  Reliever Jaime Rehmert issued a walk and struck out a batter in her one inning of work.

Knox got off to a promising start in the nightcap when first-year infielder Rhiannon Neuville-Norton (Eugene, OR, South Eugene) singled off Augustana hurler Christie Wiersema.  A fielder’s choice and two strikeouts ended the inning.

Augie scored twice in the second off Prairie Fire starting pitcher, sophomore Anna Lemen (Cincinnati, OH, Cincinnati Country Day).  The Vikings didn’t score again until the fifth, when they plated a run.  Augustana added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Vikings had 10 hits in the game.  Wiersema threw six shutout innings with seven strikeouts and three walks to earn her first win of the season.  Lemen took the loss for the Fire.
