Moline – Knox College came up short in its bid for a fourth straight victory Wednesday night against Augustana College.

The Vikings defeated Knox 7-2 in a non-conference game.  Augustana held a usually potent Prairie Fire offense to just four hits while banging out 12.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning.  The Vikings (19-10) took the lead for good with three runs in the second and two more in the third for a 6-1 lead.

Knox (9-13) was held to three singles after the first inning, including a hit by sophomore Jackson White (Grayslake, IL, Grayslake Central) that scored the Fire’s final run of the contest in the fifth inning.

Augustana plated its last run in the seventh inning.

Sophomore Kyle Walenga (San Francisco, CA, Waldorf) led Knox with two hits.

Junior Ryan Stoens (Bartonville, IL, Limestone) was the losing pitcher for the Prairie Fire.  He allowed six earned runs on eight hits in three innings pitched.

Knox plays a Midwest Conference South Division doubleheader on Saturday at Monmouth College.  The first game starts at 12:00.
