Davenport, IA - A Prairie Fire women’s golfer had an excellent day on the links on Thursday at the Augustana Invitational.

Knox had three players in the tournament, not enough to field a team, but one of the three – Mia Savard (Menifee, CA, Paloma Valley) – was on her game at Emeis Golf Course.

Savard ended the fall season with an 8th place medal at the Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championships.  She picked up where she left off in the first event of the spring season by shooting an 84, good for a tie second place with three other golfers.

Savard finished three strokes behind the individual winner, Kelsey Lieving of the University of Wisconsin – Platteville.  Savard fired a 41 on the front nine and a 43 on the last nine holes.  She just missed matching her season-low score of 83, which she shot at the Grinnell College Invitational on October 1.

Savard’s 41 on the front nine tied for the third lowest individual score.  Lieving shot a 38 through the first nine holes and followed with a 43 on the back nine.  Savard now has two top five finishes this season.

Sophomore Sarah Martin (Crown Point, IN, Merrillville) and junior Monica Price (Rochester, IL, Rochester) also competed in the tournament.

Martin (54-51-105) placed 28th overall and Price (60-55-115) was 35th.

Host Augustana College won the team title with a score of 347, two strokes ahead of runner-up Wisconsin – Platteville.  Wheaton College, Augustana’s JV team, and Judson University rounded out the top five.

The Prairie Fire plays its final events of the season in the Monmouth College Spring Invite on April 27 at Gibson Woods and the Knox College Spring Invite on April 28 at the renovated Soangetaha Country Club course.
