Jacksonville, IL – Two Prairie Fire women’s golfers finished in the top 10 on Wednesday at the Illinois College Fall Midweek Invitational.
Junior Sarah Martin (Crown Point, IN, Merrillville) matched her career-low score of 95 to place fifth overall and senior Mia Savard (Menifee, CA, Paloma Valley) carded a 96, tying her for sixth place in the individual standings. Knox had a team score of 417 and finished fourth out of five teams at the Links Golf Course.
Quincy University won the team title with a 390, two strokes ahead of second place Illinois College. Lincoln College followed with a 398 and Spoon River College was fifth with a 532.
Martin also shot a 95 in last Saturday’s Fighting Scot Invitational hosted by Monmouth College at Gibson Woods Golf Course. Her previous low score was a 99 at the 2011 Midwest Conference Women's Golf Championships.
The individual champion was Courtney Hicks of Quincy University, who shot an 87. She won by four strokes over Mackenzie Barker of IC. Cailyn Carstens (92) of IC and Kaitlyn Frye (94) of Lincoln College finished third and fourth, respectively.
Kaylee Huelsing of Fontbonne University, playing as an individual, tied Savard for sixth place with her score of 96.
The Prairie Fire next travels to Decatur to take part in the Millikin Fall Classic on September 22 and 23. The tournament, which tees off each day at 9:00 a.m., will be played at Red Tail Run Golf Course.
