Appleton, WI – The Prairie Fire came up just short of beating Lawrence University for the first time in over a decade on Sunday in the Midwest Conference match-up.

The Vikings (3-3-1, 1-0-1 MWC) saw their two-match winning streak come to an end with a 1-1 double overtime tie against the Prairie Fire (2-3-1, 0-1-1 MWC).  Knox, which last beat Lawrence during the 2001 season, earned its first conference point since a win against Monmouth College in September of 2008.

LU scored first off a rebound at the 21:41 mark for a 1-0 lead.

The Prairie Fire tied the match on a free kick by sophomore Jacob Polay (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) at 52:37.  The defense dominated the rest of the way as neither team scored.

The Vikings outshot Knox 15-6 while both teams took three shots on goal.  Prairie Fire goalie Sean McGovern (Chicago, IL, Niles Notre Dame) recorded two saves, as did Lawrence goal keeper Kevin Aslett.

The Prairie Fire are back in action on September 19 against MacMurray College (1-4) in Jacksonville.  The teams will play for the inaugural Ferris Trophy beginning at 4:00 p.m.
