Savard Leads Women's Golf at Mount Mercy

Marion, IA – The Prairie Fire began the 2012 fall season on August 31 and September 1 at the Mount Mercy Fall Invitational Tournament.
Knox finished the tourney with a team score of 451 for 15th place in the team standings.  Senior Mia Savard (Menifee, CA, Paloma Valley) had the Prairie Fire’s low score of 179 over 36 holes to finish 35th individually.  Junior Sarah Martin (Crown Point, IN, Merrillville) was next for Knox with a 218, followed by senior Monica Price (Rochester, IL, Rochester) at 220 and junior Lizzy Rodgers (Homewood, IL, Homewood-Flossmoor) with a 232.  Rodgers improved her score by eight strokes in the second round.

Truman State University, which led by nine strokes after shooting an opening round 322, held off William Penn University by one stroke to place first in the team standings.  Truman State finished with a 674, one stroke ahead of William Penn – which shot a second round low score of 335.  Rounding out the top five were Luther College (682), Grand View University (683), and St. Ambrose University (684).

Knox hosts the 18-team Knox Invitational on September 7 at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg.  The tournament is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.

ROUND 1 – August 31, 2012
Savard had a strong first round for the Prairie Fire by matching her career-low score of 82 to end the day in a tie for ninth place.  Knox shot 418 as a team and began the second round on September 1 in 15th place at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa.  Junior Sarah Martin and senior Monica Price both carded first round scores of 109 to tie for 36th place individually.  Junior Lizzy Rodgers shot a 120 in the opening round.  Truman State University shot a 322 on the first day of the tourney for a nine stroke lead over St. Ambrose University in the team standings.

ROUND 2 – September 1, 2012
The Prairie Fire fell off by 15 strokes in the second and final round, shooting a 433 to finish at 451 to place 15th in the field.  Savard was unable to continue her first round pace in round two and ended the day with a 97 for a two-round score of 179 to place 31st individually.  Martin carded a 110 in the second round and shot 218 overall, Price fired a 114 in round two for a two-day total of 222, and Rodgers shot a 112 to conclude the tournament with a score of 232.  Truman State held on for the team title, defeating hard-charging William Penn University one stroke (674 to 675).
