Women's Golf Ends Regular Season at Grinnell Tournament

Grinnell, IA – The Prairie Fire concluded regular season play with a seventh place finish on Saturday at the Grinnell College Invitational.

The meet at the Grinnell Golf and Country Club was the final regular season meet before the 2012 Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championships.

Knox finished the tournament with a team score of 407.  Senior Mia Savard (Menifee, CA, Paloma Valley) led the Prairie Fire with an 85, which included a birdie on the par five 15th hole.  After shooting a 44 on the front nine, Savard settled in and fired a 41 over the final nine holes to place 12th overall.

Senior Monica Price (Rochester, IL, Rochester) carded a 99 for Knox.  Junior Sarah Martin (Crown Point, IN, Merrillville) was next with a 102 and junior Lizzy Rodgers (Homewood, IL, Homewood-Flossmoor) scored a 121.

Grinnell College and William Penn University each finished at 326 and tied for first.  The teams then competed in a one-hole playoff with the top four players from each squad.  Grinnell defeated William Penn in the playoff by one stroke with Alex Plemmons sinking the clinching put.

The 326 scored by Grinnell set a new school record.

Mount Mercy University (339), Monmouth College (346), and Augustana College (349) rounded out the top five teams.

The individual champion was Courtney Kronmuller of William Penn.  She shot a 76 for a two-stroke win over runner-up and teammate Demi Coertze.  Monmouth’s Hannah Long tied for third with Mallory Messin of Grinnell after both shot 79s.  Grinnell’s Hailey Speck placed fifth with an 80.

The MWC Women’s Golf Championships will be held October 5 through 7 at the Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Illinois.
