Galesburg, IL – A Prairie Fire women’s golfer grabbed a top five finish in the first tournament of the spring season.
Senior Mia Savard (Menifee, CA, Paloma Valley) carded an 88 to place third overall for Knox in the Prairie Fire Spring Invitational on Friday at Soangetaha Country Club. Knox had three golfers in the tournament and all of them played as individuals. Carl Sandburg College's two golfers also played as individuals.
The two schools that fielded teams in the tourney were Monmouth College and Augustana College. Augustana finished with a score of 364, five strokes ahead of Monmouth’s 369.
Augie’s Megan Vandersee fired an 83 to finish in first place. Hannah Long of Monmouth College was second with an 83 followed by Savard, Samantha Berlage of Augustana in fourth with an 89, and Monmouth’s Nicole Hurst with a 91 for fifth place.
The other golfers for the Prairie Fire were juniors Sarah Martin (Crown Point, IN, Merrillville) and Lizzy Rodgers (Homewood, IL, Homewood-Flossmoor). Martin shot 105 and Rodgers 116.
Knox is back out on the course during Saturday’s Fighting Scots Spring Invitational at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth. The tournament is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
