Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire will have to wait another day to get back on the field thanks to the weather.
Rain has forced the postponement of Saturday’s doubleheader between Knox and Illinois College at Blodgett Field. The games will be made up on Sunday beginning at 12:00 p.m. Sunday is also Senior Day for the baseball team.
The Prairie Fire clinched the Midwest Conference South Division title and a #1 seed in the MWC Tournament for the first time since 2008 with Friday’s doubleheader sweep against IC in Jacksonville, IL. Knox won the first game 4-2 and defeated the Blueboys in the nightcap 6-5 in 11 innings.
The Prairie Fire (19-9, 11-3 MWC South) can win their 20th game for the first time since the 1997 season with a victory on Sunday against IC (13-17, 7-7 MWC South).
The 1997 Knox team (20-13, 10-5 MWC South) qualified for the conference tournament. Knox opened with a 4-1 loss to Ripon College, defeated Monmouth College 6-1, then lost to Ripon again 11-3. The Red Hawks fell to St. Norbert College 8-2 in the championship game.
The Prairie Fire are seeking their first Midwest Conference title and a trip to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament since the 2008 season.
