Men's Soccer Beats Cornell for Ninth Straight Win

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa –The Prairie Fire maintained its perfect Midwest Conference record and added to a long winning streak with a 5-0 win at Cornell College on Saturday.

Knox hit the Rams with three first half goals, added two more in the second half, and recorded the season's sixth shutout – the third against a conference opponent.  The Prairie Fire have outscored their five league opponents to date 18-2.

Junior Abdulsalam Oganla (Lagos, Nigeria, The International Academy) gave Knox a 1-0 lead over Cornell with his third goal of the season, off a corner kick from sophomore Terence Lau (Shanghai, China, Shanghai American School), 9:15 into the match.

A little over nine minutes later, junior Charlie Harned (Webster Groves, MO, Clayton) made it a 2-0 Prairie Fire lead with his fifth goal of the year.

Sophomore Bernardo Gasperazzo (Montes Claros, Brazil, Colegio Padrao) got into the scoring act with his fifth goal of the season from first-year Jon Brimeyer (Waukee, IA, Waukee) at the 42:10 mark.

Knox scored its two other goals with less than eight minutes to play.

Sophomore Jacob Ly (Beavercreek, OH, Beavercreek) sank his fourth goal, assisted by junior Hadee Ahmadi (Denver, CO, Martin Luther King Jr.), to give the Prairie Fire a 4-0 lead 82:21 into the contest.  Junior Charles Edemba (Abia, Nigeria, Santana Rhetoric Institute) became the fifth Knox player to score in the match with his fourth goal of the year about 4:30 after Ly found the back of the net.

The Prairie Fire (10-2, 5-0) did not allow a shot to Cornell while taking 19 total, including nine on goal.

Cornell (2-10-1, 0-5 MWC) suffered its eighth straight loss while Knox won for the ninth consecutive match.

The Prairie Fire play the next four of their five remaining regular season matches at Jorge Prats Field.  Knox meets Carroll University (5-5-2, 3-0-1 MWC) in a pivotal MWC contest on Saturday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m.  Beloit College (2-10, 2-3 MWC) follows on Sunday, October 19 at 11:00 a.m.
