Men's Soccer Breaks Through Against Carroll

GALESBURG, Illinois – The Prairie Fire ended a long drought against Carroll University and remain perfect in Midwest Conference play with a 1-0 win on Saturday at Jorge Prats Field.

The victory marked the 10th straight for Knox and the first against the Pioneers since a 3-2 OT win in October of 2000.

Junior Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal, his 10th of the year on an assist by junior Abdulsalam Oganla (Lagos, Nigeria, The International Academy) at the 74:36 mark.  The Prairie Fire kept the Pioneers scoreless the rest of the way and recorded their third consecutive shutout victory and seventh overall.

Scoring opportunities were few and far between in the physical contest between two of the top teams in the Midwest Conference.

Carroll (6-6-2, 4-1-1 MWC) outshot the Prairie Fire 4-2 in the first half with one shot on target and saved by Knox goalie, senior Sean Dockrell (Dublin, Ireland, San Bernadino CC).

The Prairie Fire (11-2, 6-0 MWC) came back with five shots after the break to Carroll's four.  The one that was on target – Logie's tap in – decided the match.

Knox is alone in first place in the Midwest Conference with 18 points.  Monmouth College (7-7-1, 5-1-1 MWC) has won four straight and sits in second place with 16 points.  Defending champion Lake Forest College (5-8-2, 4-2-2 MWC) has lost two straight league contests to fall to third place with 14 points while Illinois College 8-4-2, 4-1-1 MWC) and Carroll are tied for fourth with 13 points.

The Prairie Fire will assure themselves a return trip to the Midwest Conference tournament with a win on Sunday at home against Beloit College.  The Buccaneers (2-11, 2-4 MWC) lost 4-1 at IC on Saturday.

Knox and Beloit will square off at 11:00 a.m. on Jorge Prats Field.
