LAKE FOREST, Illinois – The Prairie Fire's long winning streak came to an end in the final match of the regular season at Lake Forest College on Saturday.
The Foresters posted a 2-1 victory over Knox, which set new school records earlier this week for wins in a season (14) and consecutive wins (13). The streak began with a
1-0 victory against Coe College on September 7 in the ACM Soccer Showcase in Northfield, Minnesota. That was also the first of nine shutouts this season, which tied the school record set last year.
Lake Forest (7-9-2, 6-2-2 MWC), last year's regular season and MWC tournament champion, took a 1-0 lead with a goal 12:06 into the match. The Foresters extended their lead to 2-0 with another goal at the 86:37 mark.
The Prairie Fire (14-3, 9-1 MWC) prevented being shut out when junior
Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) kicked in his MWC-leading 13th goal of the season, assisted by senior
Jacob Polay (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg), with 50 seconds left in regulation.
Knox took four of its five shots in the first half. Lake Forest outshot the Prairie Fire 17-5 overall, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.
Senior goalie
Sean Dockrell (Dublin, Ireland, San Bernadino CC) had four saves for the Prairie Fire.
