2014 Midwest Conference Softball Classic
April 11-13 @ Eastside Centre in East Peoria, IL

April 12

St. Norbert 11, Knox 3

St. Norbert raced out to a big lead early and never looked back in a win over the Prairie Fire on the second day of the MWC Classic.

The Green Knights (8-12) scored three runs in both the first and second innings for a six run cushion.  Knox senior Amber Eisha (South Wilmington, IL, Gardner-South Wilmington) held St. Norbert in check in the third inning.  However, the Knights came back with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to stretch the lead to 9-0.

The Prairie Fire answered with a two-run single by Eisha and an RBI double by first-year Chelsey Howard (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) to trim the deficit to 9-3.

St. Norbert followed with two runs in the bottom of the inning to post the eight-run victory.

Eisha (1-10) was tagged with the loss.  Five of the runs she allowed were earned and she walked two in five innings of work.

SNC outhit Knox 12-7.

Junior Brittney Price (Wyoming, IL, Stark County) had two hits and first-year Holly Bieber (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton) also got on base twice with a hit and a walk.

Ripon 3, Knox 2

The Prairie Fire's rally from a three run deficit fell a run short in a setback against the Red Hawks.

Ripon (7-17) scored the first run of the game on an infield error in the third inning.  A fielder's choice that plated a run in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth extended the Red Hawk advantage to 3-0.

Knox (2-22) cut the Ripon lead to two on a double by junior Kayla Behrens (Moline, IL, Moline) that scored senior Amber Eisha (South Wilmington, IL, Gardner-South Wilmington) in the top of the sixth inning.  Junior Brittney Price (Wyoming, IL, Stark County) singled to right to score Behrens and make it a one run game.

The Prairie Fire had a runner in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but Ripon made the lead stand.

Junior Rhiannon Neuville (Eugene, OR, South Eugene) reached base on a one out single, and following a strikeout, advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Eisha ripped a line drive to second base that the Red Hawks snagged, allowing them to hold on.

Knox outhit Ripon 6-5 but committed three errors in the contest.

Eisha's two hits led the Prairie Fire offense.

Sophomore Karli Shields (Naperville, IL, Neuqua Valley) pitched well in defeat.  Shields (1-12) gave up two earned runs and walked one while striking out three over six innings.

Knox is scheduled to play their last game at the Midwest Conference against Carroll University on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
