Men's Soccer Takes Out Monmouth

GALESBURG, Illinois – The Prairie Fire are off to a 2-0 start in Midwest Conference play with a 4-1 win over Monmouth College on Saturday at Jorge Prats Field.

Knox (7-2, 2-0 MWC) got off to a strong start with a pair of goals in the first half to force the Fighting Scots to play catch-up.

Junior Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) started the scoring for the Prairie Fire with his sixth goal of the season on an assist by junior Charlie Harned (Webster Groves, MO, Clayton) at the 34:17 mark.  Knox scored again with just 10 seconds left in the opening half when first-year Phelipe Graske (Geneva, IL, Geneva) scored on a header off a corner kick by first-year Shu Kitamura (Hong Kong, Hong Kong, IMG Academy).

The Prairie Fire took their biggest lead of the match at 3-0 on Harned's fourth goal of the year assisted by Logie 64:41 into the match.

Monmouth (3-5, 1-1 MWC) cut the deficit to 3-1 on a goal by Zeb Soignier at the 78:50 mark.  Knox countered with the last goal and the fourth of the season by sophomore Bernardo Gasperazzo (Montes Claros, Brazil, Colegio Padrao) from junior Abdulsalam Oganla (Lagos, Nigeria, The International Academy) a little over six minutes later.

The Prairie Fire held a 21-9 advantage in total shots, including 10-3 on goal.  Senior Sean Dockrell (Dublin, Ireland, San Bernadino CC) had two saves in goal for Knox, which won its sixth in a row and ended Monmouth's winning streak at two.

The Prairie Fire play three straight Midwest Conference matches on the road beginning with a trip to Ripon College on October 4.  Knox visits Lawrence University on October 5 before traveling to Cornell College on October 11.
