LAKE FOREST, Illinois - Knox had three turnovers that turned into 14 Forester points as Lake Forest College defeated the Prairie Fire 34-3 on Saturday.
Knox (2-3, 0-1 MWC) fell behind early 14-0 in the first quarter and was not able to recover. A fumble by quarterback Matt McCaffrey (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) on the Fire's first drive of the game led to an eventual Forester touchdown. Another touchdown after a Knox punt made the score 14-0.
The Prairie Fire scored their only points of the game on a field goal by Wes Koerber (Norco, CA, Norco Senior) in the second quarter before giving back a touchdown just before the two minute mark to go down 21-3 at halftime.
The Fire's second drive of the second half saw another fumble that eventually led to another Forester touchdown on the subsequent drive. Another touchdown and a missed extra point made the score 34-3, the final.
Lake Forest outgained Knox in yards including outrushing the Fire 225-73. Knox controlled the time of possession; however the three turnovers, two of which led to Lake Forest touchdowns, were the deciding factor.
Ilir Emini (Yorkville, IL, Yorkville) led all receivers with 10 receptions and finished with 78 yards to lead the Prairie Fire. Logan Hollis (Toulon, IL, Stark County) led the Knox defense with nine tackles and Cody Hipp (Crown Point, IN, Crown Point) forced a fumble.
Knox will face the Cornell College Rams (2-3) on October 17 at the Knosher Bowl for their Homecoming game.
