MONMOUTH, Illinois—The Prairie Fire suffered a tough conference loss to Monmouth 2-1.
Knox (11-2-3, 6-2-1 MWC), dropped to a tie for second place in the Midwest Conference after a loss at Monmouth on that school's Senior Day. Knox and Monmouth both played tough defense through the better part of the first half. However, in the 30th minute, the Prairie Fire were able to break the scoreless tie with a goal by
James Barrington (Pontefract, England, St. Wilfrid's) off an assist by
Abdulsalam Oganla (Lagos, Nigeria, The International Academy).
Knox was not able to rest easy for long, though, because in the 32nd minute, Monmouth brought the game back to a 1-1 tie. That score held until the 71st minute, when the Scots scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
The game was hard fought by both teams; however, Knox recorded five total penalties in the game.
The Prairie Fire will look to bounce back and return to their winning ways on October 31, which is Knox's Senior Day, against Cornell College.
