GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire moved back into a tie for first place in the Midwest Conference after a 4-1 win against Lawrence University Sunday afternoon.
Knox (9-1-2) had the stronger play in the first stanza, but could not break the deadlock by halftime.
"Coach Johnson always has organized teams that move the ball well going forward, so we knew we would have our work cut out for us," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "We were a little disjointed, but Lawrence was working harder than us to make plays, so we talked about finding our impetus to attack in the final 45 minutes."
The Fire started on the ascendency in the second half before tallying their first goal of the afternoon with five minutes gone through Jake Ly (Vandalia, OH, Beavercreek) off a cross from right back Hank Horwitz (Singapore, Singapore, Singapore American School).
The Fire would not stop there as Joe Dyer (Kansas City, MO, Oak Park) fired home two goals in succession on assists from Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) and Charlie Harned (Webster Groves, MO, Clayton) , respectively.
At 3-0 up, the Fire conceded through an own goal before Logie restored the three goal advantage off another assist from Harned to make it 4-1, the final score.
Sheikh added, "We kept the ball better in the second half and we did more with it. I'm pleased that all three of our strikers found the back of the net, as their confidence will mean a lot heading into next Sunday."
Knox will look to stay in first place in the Midwest Conference next Sunday at 1:30 p.m. when they travel to De Pere, Wisconsin, to take on St. Norbert College.
