EUREKA, Illinois—The Prairie Fire defeated Eureka 88-82 on Sunday night to open their season.

Knox (1-0) trailed by one at halftime before starting to pull away in the third quarter.

The Prairie Fire shot 39 percent from the field and 18.2 percent from three-point range.

Karlie Thorn (Henderson, NV, Coronado) led Knox with 23 points including 3-of-9 from beyond the arc, while Naja Woods (Minneapolis, MN, Southwest) added 22 points and six assists. Jamie Blue (Urbana, IL, University) scored 11 points and hauled in 11 rebounds to compete the double-double. Saundra Gavazzi (Gilbert, AZ, Chandler) came up just short of a second Knox double-double with eight points and nine rebounds.

The Prairie Fire will play their home opener on November 24 against Blackburn at 7:00 p.m.
