GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire battled to a first-quarter tie, but Monmouth reeled off 42 straight points to claim the victory.
Knox (3-6, 1-4 MWC) drove down the field in their first possession, but ended up coming up short on a fourth down situation. The Fighting Scots started the scoring in their first drive, but Knox came right back after Ilir Emini (Yorkville, IL, Yorkville) ran a kickoff back for 93 yards to set up a rushing touchdown for Matt McCaffrey (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) .
Monmouth dominated for the remainder of the game, taking a 21-7 lead into halftime and tacking on 21 more points in the third quarter.
McCaffrey completed 23-of-37 passes for 164 yards. He also rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown. Emini caught seven passes for 49 yards to move into seventh all-time in the Midwest Conference in receptions. Logan Hollis (Toulon, IL, Stark County) picked up seven tackles to lead the Prairie Fire defense. Mario Whitley (St. Louis, MO, Ladue Horton Watkins) and Dom Parello (Milwaukee, WI, South Milwaukee) each picked up two tackles for a loss. Quinn Sharp (Beaumont, CA, Beaumont) forced a fumble that was recovered by Jacob Paul (Quincy, IL, Quincy).
Knox will finish the season on the road on November 14 when they battle Beloit at 1:00 p.m.
