GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire beat Grinnell in overtime to open up the conference season on a good note.
Knox (7-1) won their sixth straight when first-year
Sarah Texter (Redlands, CA, Redlands East Valley) found the net nearly 95 minutes into the game.
The Prairie Fire and the Pioneers both had good looks over the course of the game, but both goalies came up big all day. First-year goalkeeper
Sierra Daniger (Colorado Springs, CO, Air Academy) racked up six saves for her second clean sheet of the season.
The win broke a 19-game losing streak for Knox against the Pioneers dating back to 1995. It was also the first conference win for the Prairie Fire since 2011.
The Prairie Fire will look to continue their win streak and stay perfect in conference when they travel to Illinois College on September 22. The game will begin at 5:00 p.m.
