Illinois College Hands Men's Soccer First Loss

JACKSONVILLE, Illinois—The Prairie Fire were handed their first loss of the season at Illinois College on Tuesday.

Knox (6-1-1) battled back from an early deficit but could not come out on top.

The Blueboys scored just 2:37 into the match to get on the board first.

First-year Joe Dyer (Kansas City, MO, Oak Park) scored on a header to tie the game going into halftime. Senior Nathaniel Logie (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) recorded the assist.

Illinois College again got things going early when they scored just under four minutes into the second half.

The 2-1 lead for the Blueboys remained intact at the conclusion of the match.

The Prairie Fire outshot Illinois College 15-5 overall and 6-3 on goal, but could not convert on the opportunities to score.

"Big congrats to Kurt and his team, they did their homework and executed their game plan quite well," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "I'm really proud of the grit we showed to get back in the game but the second hole was too big to climb out of in the end. If we take our chances going forward we will be just fine."

Knox will look to rebound this weekend when they return home to battle Lake Forest. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
