Men's Soccer Holds Off Lake Forest

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team took the Saturday game of homecoming weekend in a dominant fashion. Knox (11-3-1, 5-0-1 MWC) defeated Lake Forest College 2-1 to continue their dominance in the Midwest Conference.

The first score of the game came off the foot of junior Lucas Sanchez (Sao Paulo, Brazil, Pueri Domus). That made the score 1-0 Knox. The score would remain as such through the entire first half and a large portion of the second half as both teams would play great defense and alternate offensives. That was, until the 62nd minute of the game when Charlie Raymond (Portland, OR, Central Catholic) scored to make it 2-0. Lake Forest would score a goal of their own, but it would make no difference as Knox took the game 2-1 to improve to 11-3-1 and undefeated in the Midwest Conference with five wins and a tie.

Justin Dunn (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) had a quality day in the net for the Fire as he recorded three total saves, although he allowed one goal he was still able to earn the win.

"It was a great atmosphere today with fans, alums, former players and families on campus.  Our guys started bright and deserved the first goal.  The rest of the half I think we fell into protection mode," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. Dan has his Lake Forest men playing great soccer all season long.  We know what they have and vice versa so it is a bit a clash of tactics, but maybe the playing at home pushed us over the top. I was pleased to get a second goal, but credit to Lake Forest as they battled until the end.  Nothing really changes for us with the win.  Attentions turn to the next game."

The Fire will look to continue their dominance tomorrow as they take on Ripon College at home.
