GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's basketball team took down Monmouth on Wednesday night for their first victory of the season.
Knox (1-5, 1-2 MWC) led the entire second half after a back-and-forth affair in the first half. The Prairie Fire battled to a three-point lead at halftime and jumped ahead early in the second half on the strength of a 15-7 run over the first four minutes of the second half. The Fighting Scots chipped away at the lead and pulled to within four points in the final 12 seconds, but Knox held on for the 81-75 win.
Deandre Weathersby (Chicago, IL, Kenwood Academy) scored a season-high 22 points to lead the Prairie Fire.
Marcellis Davis (Chicago, IL, Curie) added 13 points and seven assists.
Jonathan Damota (Miami Springs, FL, Miami Springs) tallied 11 points and grabbed a game-high eight boards.
Knox returns home to battle Iowa Wesleyan on December 13 at 7:00 p.m.
