GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Mount Mary in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon.

Knox (0-12) and the Blue Angels played scoreless ball through the first two innings of the first game before Mount Mary broke out for two runs in the third inning. The Prairie Fire responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score. Knox took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Blue Angels fought back in the top of the seventh plating three runs to win 5-3.

In game two, Mount Mary again took the lead early scoring five runs in the first two innings. The Prairie Fire responded with three runs of their own in the second inning. The Blue Angels added a run in the fourth to expand their lead before breaking out again in the seventh inning to hold on for a 9-3 win.

Dominique Scott led the Prairie Fire offense with four hits in seven at bats with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Kristin Koviekis went 4-for-8 at the plate with a double and two RBI. Emily Stevenson added a 3-for-6 effort and Chelsey Howard went 3-for-7 with a triple. Kaly Davidson and Alannah Sanchez each added two hits on the day. Sanchez also led the Prairie Fire with three RBI.

Knox will travel to Grinnell and Cornell this weekend to open Midwest Conference play.
