WAVERLY, Iowa—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team lost to Wartburg 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
"Wartburg were talented up top and kept us at bay for much of the game," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "When we put this out of conference schedule together we knew we would take some lumps."
Knox (2-3) has lost three straight games after starting the season 2-0. The Knights struck first in the 60
th minute after neither team was able to do much in the first half. The Prairie Fire answered with a goal by
Phelipe Graske (Geneva, IL, Geneva) at the 74:32 mark, but Wartburg found the back of the net again with less than eight minutes to play.
"Again, today set pieces were an Achilles heel, added Sheikh. "The guys are obviously upset with this losing skid. However, we'll re-regiment ourselves and improve for the rest of the season. The guys have a team spirit that may bend, but will never break."
Goal keeper
Justin Dunn (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) hauled in nine saves and faced 17 shots, but the two goals allowed were enough for Wartburg to sneak by with the win.
Knox will travel to Illinois Wesleyan on September 14 in another tough non-conference matchup.
