BLOOMINGTON, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team defeated Illinois Wesleyan 2-0 on Wednesday night.
Knox (3-3) got on the board at the 36:42 mark when
Jun Min (Buffalo Grove, IL, Stevenson) scored the first goal of his career. He was assisted by
Rocky Plaza (Manila, Philippines, PAREF Southridge School).
Terence Lau (Shanghai, China, Shanghai American School) added to the Prairie Fire lead with an unassisted goal in the 72
nd minute.
Justin Dunn (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) grabbed five saves in goal and earned his third shutout of the season.
Head coach Tyler Sheikh was glad to come away with the victory. "First off, it was great to coach against a familiar face in Clint Moore. The fellas were excited to play against one of their former coaches, and one of Knox Soccer's favorite sons. Kyle (and Clint) had their team ready for a tussle from the start. We grew into the game and found a little bit of a rhythm in the first half. We ended probably our only clear-cut bright period of the game with a wonder strike from Jun. In the second half it was like a repeat of the first frame. They came out red hot and clawed their way back into the game and were incredibly unlucky not to even the score. I was pleased with our experience that we rode out a difficult spell, got good minutes from our bench and got another wonder-goal from Terence. Overall, the guys are happy to be back in the win column."Â
Knox returns home on September 17 to face Blackburn College at Jorge Prats Field.
