Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Wins Opener

The Knox men's soccer team started their season with a win on Friday night against St. Scholastica.

The Prairie Fire took at 1-0 lead at the 29:03 mark of the first half and held on for the win. Lucas Sanchez (Sao Paulo, Brazil, Pueri Domus) assisted Kendall Davidson (Fayetteville, GA, Sandy Creek) on the score. "First game of the season and the staff were hoping we'd be up for it.  Our players didn't disappoint, said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "The guys played to their strengths in the first half and scored a nice goal through open play."

Goalkeeper Justin Dunn (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) picked up six saves and earned the fifth shutout of his career. Both teams took eleven shots in the game, with nine on goal for the Prairie Fire. Sheikh added, "Scholastica had the top statistical offense in the country last year and an All-American leading the line.  Scholastica was as advertised.  I thought they were dominant in the second so credit to the game they had.  On another day this 'Tale of Two Halves' could have gone either way, but we'll take the win and call it luck that we worked hard to earn."

Knox will play again September 4 against Gustavus Adolphus at 3:00 p.m.
