GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team improved their record to 5-3 and extended their win streak to three games with a 5-2 victory over Fontbonne University.
The Griffins (0-6-1) opened up the scoring for the day with a goal in the 8th minute. Knox (5-3-0), however, came back firing with three goals in just over 15 minutes. The first goal came in the 17th minute off the foot of
Phelipe Graske (Geneva, IL, Geneva) and the second came just seven minutes later by way of
Jun Min (Buffalo Grove, IL, Stevenson), assisted by
Rocky Plaza (Manila, Philippines, PAREF Southridge School). The final goal of the half came from
Austin Grzebieniak (North Barrington, IL, Barrington Community) and the Fire went into halftime with a lead of 3-1.
After a slow start to the second half, Knox scored two goals in just over four minutes. The first came from
Nick Janulis (Arlington Heights, IL, Wheeling) with an assist by
James Barrington (Pontefract, England, St. Wilfrid's). The final goal of the match for the Fire came off a penalty kick by
Erick Karkut (Mount Prospect, IL, Prospect).
The Fire were successful in putting the ball in the back of the net today, consistently earning shots on goal. Of their 12 shots in the match, eight were on goal.

The Fire will look to continue their win streak when they take on Lawrence University in Appleton on September 24 in the first Midwest Conference action of the season.
