JACKSONVILLE, Illinois— Three is the magic number for the Prairie Fire women's basketball team in the 2016-2017 season. Knox (12-6 9-4 MWC) traveled to Illinois College (10-8, 7-6 MWC) and downed the Lady Blues for the second time in two weeks. The win sealed the Fire's third different 3-game win streak of the season and moved them to within a game of a tie for second place in the Midwest Conference standings. The triumph also sealed the first back-to-back winning seasons for the squad since the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons.
The Fire were able to jump out to an early lead and play it simple the rest of the way. A 21-point first quarter accompanied by solid defense the entire night brought Knox the victory.
Morgan Potter (Huntington Beach, CA, Huntington Beach) took over the scoring with her third straight game in double figures, leading all Knox players with 18 points.
Karlie Thorn (Henderson, NV, Coronado) had another big game as well, scoring 15 points.
Jarrelyn McCall (Lonoke, AR, Lonoke) and
Hailey Leinart (Gurnee, IL, Warren Township) each added 10 points and McCall had seven rebounds.
Naja Woods (Minneapolis, MN, Southwest) added a solid game with six points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Knox had this game well in hand early on and the lone lead change early in the first quarter indicated that. The Prairie Fire will look to extend their winning streak when they travel to Cornell College on February 4.
