MONMOUTH, Illinois—The Prairie Fire football team fell to Monmouth 52-10 in the 129th Turkey Bowl on Saturday afternoon.
Knox (4-5, 1-4 MWC) got on the board first when Jesus Flores hit a 24-yard field goal at the end of the first quarter for a 3-0 Prairie Fire lead. Monmouth reeled off 29 straight points in the second quarter to take a 29-3 lead into halftime. The Fightlng Scots scored three more touchdowns in the third quarter to extend their lead to 49-3. Knox scored their first touchdown of the day with 9:17 left to play when Hector Lopez found Hunter Lee for a 15-yard pass. Monmouth tacked on a field goal a few minutes later to conclude the scoring.
Lopez led the passing attack for the Prairie Fire completing 6-of-9 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. Matt McCaffrey added 90 yards on 9-of-17 passing. Braeden Westfall added 34 yards on the ground. Lee caught four passes for 81 yards and a score. Malik Hamilton grabbed four passes for 72 yards.
Logan Hollis and Hunter Baquet led the Knox defense with seven tackles apiece. Quinn Sharp added five tackles, including one for a loss. Trevor Follis forced a fumble and Trent Wooten and Hollis team up for a tackle for a loss.
Knox will host Lawrence on November 11 for the Midwest Conference Championship Week Competition.
