Baseball Wins Third Straight

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team earned a 2-1 victory over Eureka on Tuesday afternoon.

Knox (5-4) got on the board early with a run in the first inning after a 1-2-3 inning on defense. The Prairie Fire used strong pitching and defense to limit the Red Devils to five hits on the day.

Kam Wells (Champaign, IL, Champaign Central) led the Knox offense with three hits in four at bats. Tristyn Ruiz (Waukegan, IL, Waukegan) and Alex Bell (Elgin, IL, Burlington Central) each added two hits with Ruiz driving in a run and scoring the other. Bell also clubbed a double.

Alec Jordan (Spring Grove, IL, Richmond-Burton) earned his third win of the season while tossing two scoreless innings in relief. Jordan combined with Logan Thake (Amboy, IL, Amboy), Larry Murray (Dardenne Prairie, MO, Fort Zumwalt West), Jack Barreca (Grayslake, IL, Grayslake North), and Tom Janczur (Darien, IL, Downer's Grove South) to stymy the Eureka offense. Janczur earned the save after working out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth inning.

The Prairie Fire return to action on March 29 when they host Robert Morris-Peoria.
