GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a conference doubleheader to Grinnell on Thursday afternoon.
 
Knox (8-9, 2-4 MWC) held a 2-1 lead in game one in the middle innings, but the Pioneers tied the game in the sixth and plated three runs in the eighth to earn the victory. The Prairie Fire trailed 6-2 in game two, but scored four runs in the eighth and ninth innings to force extra innings. Grinnell was able to push across two runs in the top of the tenth and held on for the win.
 
Brendan Powers (Bourbonnais, IL, Bradley-Bourbonnais) finished the day 4-for-8 at the plate to lead the Prairie Fire. 
Drake Sykes (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg), 
Matt McCaffrey (Wilmette, IL, New Trier), and 
Ryan Weitendorf (New Lenox, IL, Lincoln-Way East) each added three hits. Weitendorf also drove in a pair of runs. 
Juston Woodard (Oak Lawn, IL, Mount Carmel) and 
Dalton James (Homer, IL, Heritage) recorded two hits apiece.
 
Alec Jordan (Spring Grove, IL, Richmond-Burton) took the tough luck loss in game one, leaving with the game tied. He struck out eight. 
Logan Thake (Amboy, IL, Amboy) tossed five innings of three run ball in game two with five strikeouts.
 
Knox will travel to Grinnell on April 15 to conclude the four game series.
