MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team defeated Wisconsin Lutheran 1-0 to win the Warrior Cup.
Knox (4-1-1) and the Warriors were tied 0-0 at halftime, but the Prairie Fire scored early in the second half and held on for the victory.
Erick Karkut scored the game-winner on a penalty kick at the 59:54 mark, but Knox outshot Wisconsin Lutheran 20-5.
"It was a fun weekend and it was good to compete in a Cup final, so to speak. Everyone at WLC is top class. It all starts with Joe and the teams he's churned out over the years. WLC posed a real threat with their class on the ball and ability to turn and connect passes," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "We came up with a big penalty save in the first half that came about against the run of play. That moment emotionally gave us a high and we stayed the more threatening team until the end."
Karkut, Phelipe Graske, Alessandro Isoardi, Alessandro Benelli, and Jun Min made the All-Tournament Team. Karkut was also named tournament MVP.
Knox returns to action on September 14 when they host Loras at the Galesburg YMCA.
