ROCK ISLAND, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team defeated Augustana 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Knox (5-2-1) trailed Augustana 1-0 after an early goal, but responded before halftime to knot the score 1-1. Tom Driscoll found Kobe Carreno for his first goal of the season. Rodrigo Carvalho added the game-winner in the 61
st minute.
The Prairie Fire outshot the Vikings 18-11 and Justin Dunn made five saves on the day.
"This was the first time in my tenure at Knox that we played our neighbors to the north. Mick and his boys gave us a fun contest," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "The game had a conference game feel to it and we continue that road warrior mentality to hopefully start streaking in the win column again. We felt great about our start, but again were poor with our execution in the final third. We felt against the run of play to concede from a set piece off a handball, but we fought hard in the heat to level things at the half. In the second half we responded with a good spell of pressure until we found the winner. I was most pleased with our ability to fight for each other and see the game out."
Knox travels to North Central on September 19 to complete their long road stretch.
