GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire men's soccer team came out of the gates ready to score in their conference opener. Fresh off a scoreless game earlier in the week, the Fire showed that they could score and score often.
A quick goal by Lucas Sanchez just 43 seconds into the match was quickly met by a Lawrence goal just 12 seconds later. However that would be the last time that Lawrence would find the back of the net as Knox would reel off six more unanswered goals. Lucas Sanchez finished with a hat trick, and Erick Karkut, Pedro Moura, Hank Horwitz, and Muzammil-E-Haque Mahmud all added goals.
"Wild start to the game, but whether it was us scoring or conceding in the first minute, we felt in control. Will was down a few guys and Lawrence kept coming in high temperatures today so credit to their performance. Their future is bright," said head coach Tyler Sheikh. "We lost our way in moments of the game, but everyone played and did something positive on the day."
The Fire will look to continue their goal scoring when they take on Beloit College at home on September 24.
