Women's Soccer Clinches MWC Regular Season Championship

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's soccer team clinched their third straight Midwest Conference Regular Season Championship with a 2-1 victory over Monmouth College on Tuesday.

Knox (11-4-2, 7-1-0 MWC) came out firing in the first half, notching a pair of quick scores in the first 11 minutes of the game. Alyx Farris took a pass from Yvette Rodriguez in the 10th minute and then assisted Lydia Mitchell less than two minutes later to give Knox an early 2-0 lead. That lead would remain intact at halftime, with Knox dominating possession in the first half.

The Fighting Scots came out aggressive in the second half and controlled the ball for a good portion of the half. Monmouth scored a goal at the 64:07 mark, but the Prairie Fire defense held strong and the offense was able to move the ball better in the final minutes. Knox held on for the win.

The Prairie Fire outshot the Fighting Scots 17-3 overall, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.

"It was a great battle against a good Monmouth team today," said head coach Chris Haught-Thompson. "We accomplished step one of our journey tonight and I am so, so proud of the ladies in our group."

Knox will host the Midwest Conference Tournament on November 2 and 3 in an effort to make it three straight tournament championships as well. The Prairie Fire are now 44-11-5 overall in the last three seasons and 23-1-3 in conference play over that same period.

The Prairie Fire host Cornell on October 27 in the final regular season game of the season.
