Women's Soccer Fall in NCAA Tournament

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin—The Knox College Prairie Fire women's soccer team was defeated by the St. Thomas Tommies in the first round of the NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament by a score of 0-1. This caps an incredibly successful season for the Prairie Fire, as they won both the Midwest Conference and the Midwest Conference Tournament.

The game began with a bang, as the only goal of the game was scored on a header off a cross in the box by Kaley Roberts in the 5th minute, barely beating the outstretched Prairie Fire defenders and keeper. This would be the only score of the game, as Knox's defense was able to prevent the Tommie offense from getting very many good looks on goal. Unfortunately, Knox's attack was largely neutralized as well by St. Thomas.

In the second half, the Prairie Fire attacks increasingly began to probe the Tommie defense. Unfortunately, many of their shots were not on goal, as in total they only were able to direct four on goal. St. Thomas, on the other hand, directed 11 shots on goal, and despite stellar play from Sierra Daniger at keeper, their lead held the whole game, and Knox was defeated.

"We battled so hard today. It was probably a fantastic game to watch as a neutral, but tough to come out on the wrong side," said head coach Chris Haught-Thompson. "I am so proud of this group for the season they've had and thankful for the 11 seniors and what they have done for this school, community, and program."

Everyone here at Knox is very proud of everything the women's soccer team was able to accomplish, and gives congratulations to every player for an excellent campaign!
