GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's soccer team advanced to the Midwest Conference Tournament Championship game with a thriller over Ripon on Friday afternoon. Knox advanced after a pair of overtimes resulted in the game being decided by penalty kicks.
Â
The Red Hawks scored first when they found the back of the net less than 10 minutes into the game. Lydia Mitchell scored the equalizer at the 14:20 mark after a nice pass from Jenna Milligan. The game went to halftime tied 1-1 and remained the same through regulation and two overtimes.
Â
Knox netted four of their five PK's to earn a chance to compete for their third straight Midwest Conference Tournament title.
Â
"It was a crazy game and was really hard fought by Ripon," said head coach Chris Haught-Thompson. "It was well played by Ripon, especially by their goalie. We have talked all year about chipping away and we continue to do so."
Â
Knox will battle St. Norbert on November 3 at 2:00 p.m. on Jorge Prats Field on the Knox campus.
