APPLETON, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Lawrence 59-48 on the road on Saturday afternoon. It was head coach Emily Cline's 100th career victory.
Knox (7-5, 4-1 MWC) finished the first quarter strong after an early 5-5 tie. The Prairie Fire scored 11 straight points to finish the quarter up 16-5. Knox expanded the lead early in the second period after Catessa Duran knocked down a trey in the opening minute. The Vikings clawed their way back into the game and only trailed 26-22 with 2:40 left in the first half. The Prairie Fire scored once more before to take a 28-22 lead into intermission.
Knox struck first again in the second half to take an 11-point lead, but Lawrence answered and trailed by just four heading into the final quarter. The Vikings hung around in the early portion of the fourth quarter, but the Prairie Fire took a double-digit lead in the final minutes of the game to secure the victory.
Jarrelyn McCall led Knox with 17 points and 11 rebounds to record a double-double. She converted 8-of-10 from the charity stripe and 3-of-5 from long-range. Karlie Thorn hit four treys to finish with 12 points and Morgan Potter added 10 points.
"We played a very solid defensive game in the second half especially," said Cline. "It was great to get a quality road win to start the second half of the season."
The Prairie Fire continue their road swing with a game at Cornell on January 2.
