Baseball Falls to Monmouth

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire baseball team fell to Monmouth 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. Darkness halted game two with Knox (4-8) trailing the Scots 10-9 heading into the top of the ninth inning. The game will be resumed before the scheduled doubleheader at Monmouth on March 31.

Monmouth got the scoring started in the second inning and led 1-0 going into the ninth inning in a pitcher's duel. Tyler McDonald of Monmouth and Logan Thake of Knox matched zeroes for the next five innings. The Scots erupted for three more runs in the ninth to take a 4-0 lead. The Prairie Fire showed life in the bottom half, finally chasing the Scots' starter. After a leadoff single by Brendan Powers, Tristan Hannah doubled to put runners at second and third. After a strikeout, Andrew Recker plated a run with a groundout. Paul Sanders drew a walk and forced Monmouth to relieve McDonald. Center fielder Jake Starkey shut the door for the Scots by forcing a flyout.

Powers and Hannah both finished with two hits for the Prairie Fire. Sanders stole two bases to set a new school record with 47 career steals.

Thake gave up one run in 7.1 innings while only allowing four hits. He walked two and struck out three.
