GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire baseball team swept Iowa Wesleyan in a doubleheader on Monday.
Knox (7-10) took an early lead in game one when Paul Sanders singled, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Dalton James, and came home on a wild pitch. The Prairie Fire tacked on another run in the third on a double steal by James and Andrew Recker. The Tigers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning on an unearned run, but Knox scored a pair in the fifth and held on for the 4-1 victory.
In game two, Iowa Wesleyan jumped on the board early with a solo home-run. The Prairie Fire responded in the second inning when a Kobe Shutter double plated Tristan Hannah. The Tigers tacked on a pair in the third inning and another in the fifth, but Knox responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Logan Thake and Jack Barreca held Iowa Wesleyan scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings and Shutter tripled and advanced on an error to earn the 5-4 walk-off win.
Shutter finished the day 4-for-7 with two RBI and a run scored. Tristan Hannah added a pair of hits and an RBI. Brendan Powers also drove in two. Sanders stole three bases, while James and Recker each recorded two.
Tom Janczur tossed five innings of two hit ball in the opener, only allowing two hits and an unearned run. Zach Chainuck came on for the two-inning save. Jack Barreca took the victory in the nightcap with a scoreless seventh inning.
Knox will host Cornell on April 7 to continue Midwest Conference play.
