GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Iowa Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon.
Knox (6-22) earned the win in a pitcher's duel in game one as Tegan Doherty pitched a shutout. Kenzie Funk singled home Doherty in the fifth inning for the win.
In game two, the offense erupted for both teams as the Tigers scored two runs in the first inning and Knox got a solo home-run from Katy Coseglia in the bottom half to score a run of their own. IWU pushed across two more runs in the top of the second, but the Prairie Fire responded with a nine-run inning to take a 10-4 lead. The Tigers added three in the third, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh to push the game into extra innings. Both teams managed a run in the eighth inning, but IWU tallied eight runs in the ninth to earn a 19-12 victory.
Casey Hipp led the Prairie Fire with a 4-for-8 showing at the plate. Coseglia drove in four runs and Hipp added two RBI. Coseglia, Emily Stevenson, and Valerie Froeming managed three hits, while Kristen Koviekis and Funk added two hits.
Doherty picked up her sixth win of the season in game one while only allowing two hits.
