Softball Drops a Pair to League-Leading Foresters

LAKE FOREST, Illinois—The Prairie Fire softball team dropped a conference doubleheader to league leader Lake Forest on Sunday.
 
Knox (8-25, 3-14 MWC) struck first in game one with a pair of runs in the first inning. The Foresters responded with four runs in the bottom half and tacked on three more in the second inning. Lake Forest added three runs in the fourth and held on to win 10-2 in five innings.
 
The Foresters scored first in game two with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Prairie Fire tied it up in the top of the third. Lake Forest added two runs in the third, a run in the fifth, and three in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead. Knox rallied to score three in the top of the seventh and brought the tying run to the plate, but came up just short in a 7-4 loss.
 
Valerie Froeming, Kenzie Funk, Kristen Koviekis, and Tegan Doherty each had two hits for the Prairie Fire. Koviekis, Doherty, Funk, and Casey Hipp each clubbed a double. Clare Hensley drove in two runs.
 
Knox will travel to MacMurray on April 30 to conclude their season.
