Baseball Defeats RMU, Coach I Picks Up 300

EAST PEORIA, Illinois—The Prairie Fire baseball team broke an eight-game losing streak in exciting fashion on Wednesday night.
 
Knox (10-21) banged out 23 hits to earn a 13-3 victory over Robert Morris-Peoria and picked up head coach Jami Isaacson's 300th career win. Juston Woodard got the scoring started in the first inning by driving in Paul Sanders with a double. Brendan Powers then doubled Woodard home to give the Prairie Fire a 2-0 lead. The Eagles managed a run in the second inning, but Knox responded with three runs in the third and two in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. The Prairie Fire tacked on a pair in the sixth. Robert Morris pushed across a run in the eighth to bring the score to 9-2 in favor of Knox. The Prairie Fire added four runs in the ninth to take a commanding lead. The Eagles managed a run in the ninth, but pitcher Logan Thake shut the door with a strikeout to end the game.
 
Dalton James finished 4-for-6 at the plate to lead Knox. Sanders, Woodard, Powers, and Adam Brown each tallied three hits. Tristyn Ruiz and Brady Sember each picked up two hits. Ruiz drove in a team-high four runs, while Sanders and Woodard each plated two. Sanders scored his 112th run, which places him in a tie for the school record.
 
First-year Mario Fusco picked up his first career win on the mound with three innings of work. He allowed two hits and struck out four. Davin Conway struck out a pair in an inning of work and both Zach Chainuck and Thake struck out the side in their lone inning of work.
 
Knox will finish their season with a four-game conference series against Illinois College. The series will begin with senior day at Knox on May 5.
