GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a pair of games to Illinois College on senior day.

Knox (10-23, 2-15 MWC) fell behind early in game one when the Blueboys scored three in the first inning. The Prairie Fire scored a run in the third to bring the deficit to 3-1. IC tacked on four runs in the eighth inning, but Knox scored three in the bottom half to bring the game to 7-4. The Blueboys added a run in the ninth and held on for the 8-4 victory.

In game two, the Prairie Fire stormed out to a 10-0 lead after the first two innings and tacked on another run in the fifth. IC scored a pair in the sixth and Knox added one in the bottom half to bring the game to 12-2 in favor of Knox. Just three outs away from defeating the Blueboys by the mercy rule, the Prairie Fire gave up seven runs in the seventh inning. Knox added a run in the seventh to retain a 13-9 lead, but that was erased when IC scored four in the top of the eighth. The Blueboys added another in the top of the ninth and closed the door with runners at second and third in the bottom half to earn the sweep.

Dalton James again led the Prairie Fire at the plate with four hits in nine at bats. He drove in four and scored three runs in the doubleheader. Paul Sanders, Juston Woodard, and Adam Brown each added three hits on the day and Brendan Powers earned a pair of base knocks. Sanders stole four bases to give him the single season Midwest Conference record with 36Â steals on the season. James homered, doubled, and stole three bases as well.

Knox will look to rebound in their final doubleheader of the year at Illinois College on May 6.
