Football Falls to Eureka in 7th Annual Lincoln Bowl

GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire football team fell to Eureka 49-24 in the seventh annual Lincoln Bowl on Saturday.

Knox (0-1) got the scoring started when Jesus Flores kicked a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter. The Red Devils responded on the first play of their next drive when running back Leanthony Reasnover ran for 52 yards to score the first touchdown of the game. Eureka scored on each of their four possessions in the second quarter to take a commanding 35-3 lead, but the Prairie Fire scored their first touchdown of the day as time expired in the first half. Quarterback Jacob Amaro hit Hunter Lee for a three-yard pass and Flores made the extra point to bring the score to 35-10 at the half.

Knox looked to gain some momentum when Amaro hit Malik Hamilton for a 70-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, but it was called back for a penalty. The Prairie Fire defense hunkered down in the third quarter, but the Red Devils found the end zone with 1:16 left to take a 42-10 lead. Chris Scott rushed for a two-yard score in the opening seconds of the final quarter to bring the score to 42-17, but Eureka responded with another touchdown with 5:40 to play. Amaro hit Patrick Marzolino with a 14-yard pass in the final minute to finish the scoring.

"Game one often comes down to who makes the least amount of mistakes, and today, Eureka made less mistakes then we did," said head coach Damon Tomeo. "We knew coming in that Anthony Reasonover is a good running back, he confirmed that today."

Amaro passed for 345 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start under center. Lee caught six passes for 150 yards and a touchdown. Joey Auger combined for 80 total yards on four catches and eight rushing attempts. Logan Hollis picked up 10 total tackles to lead the Prairie Fire. Tyler Podwojski and Mike Cepolski each picked up a tackle for a loss and Mario Whitley blocked a punt.

"It was good to see Hunter Lee's catches from the wide receiver position today, a definite bright spot for us and something to build on," added Tomeo. "Moving forward, we will watch the tape, improve on the areas that we need to improve on, and keep getting better in preparation for a tough road game at Beloit next Saturday."

Knox will look for their first win of the season when they travel to Beloit on September 8.
