St. Norbert Uses Strong 2nd Half to Get by Men's Basketball

GALESBURG, IllinoisOn a snowy Saturday afternoon, the Knox Prairie Fire men's basketball team did battle with St. Norbert College. St. Norbert is currently leading the Midwest Conference standings with a perfect record in conference play.

The Prairie Fire had a switch up in the starting lineup as Jordan Rayner started the game alongside Malcolm Bray, Justin Windt, Blake Goldbold, and Ikenna Ozor. Knox College opened up the game with a quick 4-2 start. St. Norbert is the bigger of the teams and they tried to take advantage down low early by attacking the paint. Windt and Ozor did a good job of showing some resistance, but the Green Knights started pulling away by taking a 16-10 lead. Windt hit a jumper at the 6:54 mark to cut the lead to 16-18. A couple minutes later, Malcolm Bray hit a trey to put Knox up 23-20. After the score was tied 25-25, St. Norbert went on a 11-0 run to end the half.

Windt had an outstanding first half. He tallied 13 points and three rebounds. Malcolm Bray chipped in with six points.

St. Norbert started off the second half with a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 20. Rayner hit a three-pointer to end the scoring drought for the Prairie Fire, but Knox would get no closer. The Green Knights led by as many as 30, but the Prairie Fire got hot late in the game to cut into the deficit. John Tsahageas came in and knocked down a pair of long-range jumpers, both assisted by Elijah Crump.  The final score was 78-55.

Windt finished the game with 16 points and Rayner added 12. Windt also grabbed a team-high five boards.

"We improved from the last time we played them," said head coach Kevin Walden. "Our defense was able to disrupt them in the first half, but they made some adjustments in the second half."

Knox returns to action on January 19 as they host Grinnell.
