Men's Basketball Takes Loss at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Illinois—The Knox College Prairie Fire men's basketball team fell to the Lake Forest College Foresters by a final score of 77-58. This game concluded a winless series of road games for the Prairie Fire, who are still looking for their first conference win.

In the first half, the Prairie Fire kept the game close by primarily using their strength in the paint to muscle Forester defenders off the ball for easy layups. Knox was led Blake Godbold who scored 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting, including converting both of his attempts from three. The Prairie Fire, much like Lake Forest, relied on their starters for their scoring, with no bench points for Knox and only two for the Foresters. When the fiercely contested half ended, the Prairie Fire were only down by five and appeared to have captured the momentum of the game.

The second half proved to provide a different narrative, though, as the Lake Forest duo of Sean Espinosa and Danny Sotos carried the Foresters to a victory by a comfortable margin. Scoring a combined 22 points to go along with six rebounds, they proved to be too much for the Prairie Fire defense to contain. While Godbold was unable to carry over his hot hand from the first half, Justin Windt picked up the slack, scoring nine points on 3-of-4 shooting. Unfortunately, the team shooting as a whole hovered in the low 40's in terms of percent, and as a result Knox was unable to seriously threaten Lake Forest.

Knox finally returns home to face Monmouth College in Memorial Gymnasium on January 8th at 3 p.m.
