GALESBURG, IL – An afternoon shower on Wednesday forced the Knox women's tennis match to be played at Lakeside Recreation Center.
Facing off against Monmouth College, the Prairie Fire dropped all three doubles matches. At number one doubles, junior Bhumika Gupta and sophomore Himani Patel lost a tie breaker by two points.
After a long doubles match, Gupta and Patel felt confident going into their singles matches.
Gupta tallied another point for the Prairie Fire and moved to 8-2 in singles play this season as she beat Emma Johanns 6-0, 6-2.
Hungry for a victory, Patel battled her way past Monmouth's McKenzie DeVilder and came out victories in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
Monmouth secured three victories at four, five, and six singles and clinched the overall match, 6-3.
"I'm glad I was able to bounce back after a close loss in doubles play," Patel said. "Being able to finish the match with a win is always nice."
Knox will play two matches at home on Sunday. The Prairie Fire will host Grinnell College at 9:00am and Cornell College at 2:00pm for Senior Day and the Play for The Cure match.
